Renato Souza Coelho


Renato has been working for more than 20 years with tax advisory and taxation of mergers and acquisitions (M&A), corporate restructuring, debt restructuring and financial and capital market operations and tax administrative litigation. Renato serves public and private companies in a variety of sectors, such as financial services, infrastructure and fuels. It also assists individuals in their estate and succession planning.

He is a member of the Brazilian Institute of Tax Law (IBDT), Brazilian Association of Financial Law (ABDF) and International Fiscal Association (IFA).

Renato is co-author of the book “Manual de Tributação do Mercado Financeiro” and is the author of several articles in the tax area.

  • Postgraduate Degree in Tax Law from Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP).

  • Master of Laws Degree (LL.M.) in International Tax Law from Leiden University, Netherlands.

Clients report that he is “very clear, objective and with deep knowledge”. Renato is listed as one of the most admired lawyers in Brazil by the publication Análise Advocacia.


  • Advised a large Brazilian conglomerate on tax issues related to debt restructuring in the amount of R$ 80 billion, the largest restructuring in Brazil until then.

  • Advised a Brazilian client on tax issues related to the privatization process of Transportadora Associada de Gás - TAG

  • Advised an international group in the cement market in an international corporate reorganization to optimize the tax burden.

  • Advised an international sovereign wealth fund on numerous investments in Brazil.

  • Advised a Brazilian conglomerate on the formation of a joint venture to create one of the largest renewable energy and commercialization platforms in Brazil
